Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin made a clean getaway before announcing their split on Tuesday, March 25. No doubt anticipating the public frenzy around their separation, the spouses escaped to the Bahamas with daughter Apple, 9, and son Moses, 7, prior to their big reveal, sources confirm to Us Weekly. (Lainey Gossip also reported that the two are together in the Bahamas.)
The family excursion is their second tropical jaunt since December. Over the New Year, the couple enjoyed a vacation on the beaches of Hawaii, where they were photographed deep in conversation near the shore. This trip is different, of course, as it comes amid news of Paltrow and Martin's split.
"It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate," they said Tuesday in a statement on the actress' Goop website. "We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."
"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been," the statement continued, noting that they are "parents first and foremost" to Apple and Moses. "We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and co-parent, we will be able to continue in the same manner."
Married to the Coldplay singer, 37, since 2003, Paltrow, 41, often spoke of the ups and downs in her marriage. She always maintained, however, that the kids came first for both of them. "We are committed co-parents, we make all the decisions together, and lean on each other for support," she told The Mail's You magazine in March 2013.
"[Chris] is so good to the children and to know that you had kids with such a good man is a real weight off you," she added. "Regardless of what happens in our marriage, I chose the best father."
