Gwyneth Paltrow Chows Down on Gourmet Food After Failing Food Stamp Challenge

Bon appétit! Gwyneth Paltrow chowed down on the good stuff quickly after consciously uncoupling with food stamps. The Oscar winner, who vowed to eat only $29 worth of food last week, was spotted enjoying a gourmet barbecue dinner in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, April 14.

According to Page Six, the Mortdecai actress noshed with Iron Man director Jon Favreau, chef Roy Choi, and her boyfriend Brad Falchuk at L.A. hot spot Animal. The A-list event, also attended by Jimmy Kimmel, was hosted by David and Victoria Beckham.

Paltrow, 42, had not completed the challenge of living on only food stamps for a full week before splurging on the $85 per person meal, but her rep clarified to Page Six that she had already finished the challenge. Even so, it turns out that the star broke the rules after all. She admitted on her GOOP website that she stopped after four days. Why? She couldn't resist having some chicken, fresh vegetables, and half a bag of black licorice!

"After trying to complete this challenge (I would give myself a C-), I am even more outraged that there is still not equal pay in the workplace. Sorry to go on a tangent, but many hardworking mothers are being asked to do the impossible: Feed their families on a budget which can only support food businesses that provide low-quality food," Paltrow wrote. "The food system in our beautiful country needs to be subjected to a heavy revision—it is a cyclical problem, with repercussions that we all feel."

She added: "I’m not suggesting everyone eat organic food from some high horse in the sky. I’m saying everyone should be able to afford fresh, real food. And if women were paid an equal wage, families might have more of a choice in the grocery aisles, not to mention in the rest of their lives."

Paltrow may not have succeeded, but she did donate to the NYC Food Bank to make up for it. She also encouraged readers to do so, and shared three delicious meals she made while participating in the challenge.
