Becky who? Just a few days after Beyoncé debuted her new visual album, Lemonade, about an unfaithful lover, her husband, Jay Z, was photographed for the first time, and he looked totally carefree!
The 46-year-old music mogul wore sunglasses and a hat and puffed on a cigar at a Miami hotel on Tuesday, April 26. Jay Z is likely in Florida with the pop superstar, 34, for the first date of her Formation tour, which kicks off at Marlins Park on Wednesday, April 27. The couple was also spotted riding in a golf cart together during Beyoncé’s rehearsals, according to pictures obtained by E! While the rapper appeared to be in good spirits, the “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” singer seemed more serious. “When only a few people were around, Jay showed some affection [toward] Beyoncé,” an onlooker told the website. “He is giving her space though to rehearse and coming and going, but still showing her that he is by her side.”
After Lemonade debuted on Saturday, April 23, speculation began that the narrative might be autobiographical, and people wondered about the state of Bey and Jay’s marriage. In the track “Sorry,” Beyoncé sings about a mistress who she calls “Becky with the good hair.” Fans guessed that “Becky” might be Rachel Roy, the alleged cause of the infamous elevator fight between Jay Z and Queen Bey’s sister, Solange Knowles, after Roy posted an Instagram captioned “good hair don’t care.” Others thought Rita Ora could be “Becky” after she shared a snap in lemon-inspired lingerie, but both stars later denied they were the lady in question in public statements.
Beyoncé’s unauthorized biographer, J. Randy Taraborrelli, weighed in on the album and said he doesn’t think the art is a literal interpretation of the power couple’s eight-year marriage. He suggested that it may actually be inspired by her father, Mathew Knowles, who cheated on Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, prior to their 2011 divorce. After Taraborrelli spoke with Beyoncé’s first boyfriend, Lyndall Locke, who was unfaithful to the superstar before she became famous, it was clear to him that Beyoncé wouldn’t put up with infidelity because of what she had seen in her parent’s relationship.
