Jenny McCarthy seems to think she's got nothing to lose now that her days on The View are numbered. During the ABC show's Tuesday, July 22, episode, the soon-to-be-departed co-host made an offhand remark about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's sexuality.
The comment came about as part of a discussion about a new tell-all book, Ronald Kessler's The First Family Detail: Secret Service Agents Reveal the Hidden Lives of Presidents, parts of which were reported on by The New York Post's Page Six on Monday evening. According to the Post, Kessler's book claims former President Bill Clinton has a "mistress" nicknamed by the Secret Service as "Energizer."
View co-host Sherri Shepherd—who, like McCarthy, will be leaving the show after this season—was skeptical of the report, saying that the ex-Commander-in-Chief "always seems to be so in love with his wife" when they step out together. She also noted how much they'd been through in the past, including, of course, his 1998 sex scandal with Monica Lewinsky.
McCarthy, in response, speculated that he and his wife might have some kind of agreement about their marriage. "Well, maybe he has his girlfriends, and she has her girlfriends," she said. "You never know. Maybe they have an arrangement."
"Now you're putting stuff out there!" Shepherd replied. Moderator Whoopi Goldberg further dismissed the speculation, saying that "no matter what you do, you can't get between [the Clintons]."
"They are husband and wife. They have been married," she continued. "And as you said, Sherri, they have weathered a whole bunch of stuff."
