Joan, 81, was rushed to the hospital on Thursday, Aug. 28, after suffering complications during a minor throat procedure. After news broke that the comedienne was in serious condition, friends, fans, and colleagues took to social media to send well wishes.
"My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world," Melissa, 46, said in a statement to E! News. "Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."
The E! Fashion Police host was put into a medically induced coma at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, a source previously confirmed to Us Weekly. Alarm was first raised on Thursday morning when Rivers stopped breathing during her surgery, and a 911 call was placed, in which the caller reportedly said that someone was "in either cardiac or respiratory arrest."
Melissa previously released a statement on her mother's condition through a Mount Sinai Hospital representative.
