It’s his time to shine! Leonardo DiCaprio enjoyed a big night out at the 73rd annual Golden Globes on Sunday, January 10. Not only did he win the best actor award for The Revenant, but he also mingled with the likes of Tobey Maguire, Kate Winslet, Mark Ruffalo and many others. Us Weekly has the exclusive inside observations and details on his epic evening.

1. Leo Tells Mark Ruffalo That He Loves Him

At around 6 p.m., the Hollywood heartthrob ran into his Shutter Island costar Mark Ruffalo. An observer says the 2016 Golden Globe winner gave Ruffalo “a giant, long hug” and greeted him by saying, “Bubba!” Ruffalo, who was nominated for Infinitely Polar Bear, replied by asking DiCaprio about his afterparty plans.

“Where are you going after this?” the Foxcatcher actor asked his old pal.

“I don’t know,” DiCaprio replied, “but I just love you!”

2. Leo and Tobey Maguire Make Plans to Party — And Everybody Wants In

DiCaprio got out of his chair to chat with his party pal and Great Gatsby costar Tobey Maguire. The observer tells Us that the two were scanning the room inside the Beverly Hilton and “looked like they were plotting something, or perhaps planning their night out.” They were engrossed in conversation until Harrison Ford‘s wife, Calista Flockhart, walked past them, and they politely stepped aside so she could make her way through.

Later, the buddies hit up Fox’s Golden Globes afterparty, “and the crowd went insane,” says one observer. “I have never seen so many people take photos of a celeb at a Golden Globes party before. Leo and Tobey sat together in a corner chatting, and Leo drank champagne during their chat. Security guards kept shining a light in anyone’s eyes who tried to take a photo of Leo and Tobey chatting. When they left, they went out a back exit and again — there was much fanfare to their departure.”

3. Leo Gets a Standing Ovation and Wins a Bet for Jason Sudeikis

Even Hollywood was betting on DiCaprio! Comedian Jason Sudeikis had selfish reasons for celebrating the A-lister’s best actor win for The Revenant on Sunday night. An observer tells Us that immediately after DiCaprio’s name was announced, Sudeikis turned to his friend and mouthed, “You owe me money!”

Meanwhile, DiCaprio’s industry peers stood up to congratulate the actor on his well-deserved moment in the spotlight. “Leo got a huge standing ovation that lingered,” an insider tells Us. “Everyone was up cheering for Leo. He seemed very happy and took his time with his speech. Even when the music tried to play him out, he made sure to mention his thoughts about the environment and climate change.”

4. Leo Goes Viral and Gives an Impassioned Acceptance Speech

DiCaprio took home the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama and gave a moving speech about his love for film. “Thank you. What an incredible honor. Wow, that meant a lot. Thank you so much,” he said. “This was about trust and there’s no one we trust more than our director, Alejandro G. Inarritu. Your leadership, your vision, your acute attention to making every day so visceral and real for us … I have never had an experience like this in my entire life.”

5. Kate Winslet Cannot Stop Hugging Leo

Lucky Leo! After DiCaprio’s acceptance speech, he returned to his table to be congratulated by a megawatt former costar: the one and only Kate Winslet

“She threw her arms around him so excitedly for a lengthy, loving hug,” one observer tells Us of the adorable Titanic reunion. “I could see her expression from where I was sitting and she looked so happy, like she could cry. She was patting his back and squeezing him and talking into his ear, and when she pulled away, they smiled to each other.”

Not to be upstaged by Winslet, Inarritu swooped in for seconds. He was “next to pull Leo in for a hug,” the same observer says. “A photog had them pose together so Alejandro grabbed his Globe and they both posed together holding their statues.”
