On the road to reconciliation? It’s been five months since Father’s Day, when Oliver Hudson posted his infamous “Happy Abandonment Day” photo with his estranged dad, Bill Hudson, and younger sister, Kate Hudson. But since then, the once-distant father-son duo have been trying to make amends.

“It actually started a dialogue,” the Scream Queens star, 39, said of his Instagram post on the Nov. 17 episode of Watch What Happens Live. “I haven’t talked to my father in 12 years. In my dark, crazy sense of humor, I posted this ‘Happy Abandonment Day’ thing, which everyone went crazy over, and I was just trying to be funny. And at the end of the day it was a good thing.”

Oliver said that he and his musician father, who divorced his mother, Goldie Hawn, in 1982, are in a much better place than they were before the photo was posted.

“We’re communicating now, [I] had an amazing three-hour conversation with him,” he told host Andy Cohen. “We’re texting, trying to see each other. So, you know, we might be mending something.”

Cohen suggested, “Maybe your sister will get in on the action.”

“We’ll see,” Oliver replied.

Initially, Bill, 66, had a very negative response to his son’s post, telling the Daily Mail, "That was like a dagger to the heart. If what he wanted was me out of their lives, then he’s succeeded. I don’t want to see either of my eldest children ever again. It’s over."
