Big bling! Sean Avery popped the question to Hilary Rhoda with a massive diamond engagement ring. On Wednesday, Nov. 13, sources confirmed to Us Weekly that the 33-year-old former Rangers hockey player proposed to the model last Friday.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Rhoda, 26, was spotted going for a stroll in New York City, wearing her gorgeous new ring. The model flashed a big smile to photographers while showing off her huge round-cut diamond with what appears to be a gold band. The bride-to-be paired her new accessory with a leopard-print coat, black leggings and black boots.

"It was just really romantic and sweet," Rhoda told Us exclusively of Avery's proposal. "I was surprised."

Avery and Rhoda have been dating on and off for three years. After retiring from the NHL in 2012, the Canadian athlete began working at Lipman, an advertising and creative agency in New York City. Rhoda is the spokesmodel for Estee Lauder and will be walking in the 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show on Wednesday night.

No date has been set yet for the couple's upcoming nuptials. "Right now we're just enjoying this part," Rhoda told Us, but added that it's "very exciting."
