Before Katy Perry debuts what is sure to be yet another memorable outfit at the MTV Video Music Awards September 6, Us Weekly has rounded up the pop star's wildest, most over-the-top looks from previous appearances at the annual awards show.
In 2008 -- Perry's first appearance at the VMAs -- the "I Kissed a Girl" singer arrived on the red carpet wearing a kitschy, bedazzled halter top, which she paired with flesh-colored hot pants and metallic purple heels. The showgirl-inspired look featured feather, sequin and crystal embellishments.
Perry turned it up a notch the following year when she walked the red carpet outside Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The pop star played up her cleavage by wearing a silver, studded mini-dress by The Blonds.
At the Nokia Theatre in L.A. in 2010, Perry looked like an ice princess in a Marchesa dress, Jimmy Choo shoes, Sutra earrings and a black diamond ring from M.C.L. Carrying a Swarovski clutch, Perry had her manicurist put decals of her then-fiance Russell Brand's face on her fingernails. The "Teenage Dream" singer also sported curly pink and blue streaks in her hair.
In August 2011, Perry, now 27, selected a fashion-forward, Asian-inspired Atelier Versace dress, which she paired with Jimmy Choo heels and Lorraine Schwartz jewels. Carrying a matching parasol, the singer rocked a bubblegum pink hair color. She later changed into outfits by Dior Couture Tom Ford, among others.
