Things have gotten ugly over at ABC.

The network is canceling Ugly Betty, which stars America Ferrera, Vanessa Williams and Ana Ortiz. The hour-long show is currently in its fourth season.

"We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion," executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Stephen McPherson told in a joint statement Wednesday. "We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell."

The series -- about a young woman struggling as an editor at a fashion magazine -- has shifted time slots frequently over the past year. They had switched to Fridays for half a season before returning to Wednesday nights this fall.

In addition to telling producers that the show is over, the network has also trimmed the final season's episode order from 22 to 20.
