Angelina Jolie may portray Cleopatra, the legendary Egyptian ruler, in a future film.

With Jolie in mind, film producer Scott Rudin has purchased the film rights to upcoming biography Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life, USA Today reports.
Rudin's office confirmed to USA Today that the movie "is being developed for and with Jolie."

Stacy Schiff wrote the new biography -- out this November -- and says that the superstar would be ideal in the role. "Physically, she's the perfect look," the author said of Jolie, 35.

Yea, I just went through some of the comments and everybody is saying Angelina is perfect for the role because she is beautiful/sexy. I really hope they don't make a epic movie about femmel fatale Cleopatra. It would be better if they go with a unknown with more charisma than looks. Obviously it takes more than beauty to rule an empire.
OK, to MS. Ramos. If you go a little bit deeper you will find that Arabs are actually a mixed race that resulted from Asians and black Africans mixing over thousands of years. So, essentially they are of Africa descent. Any ways that is not the point your The fact you stated, that Angelina makes a beautiful Cleopatra is the problem. All Hollywood wants is for people to go see her be pretty and wear beautiful costumes and parade like Cleopatra. For their sake I hope the focus on the fact taht Cleopatra as multi cultural woman with an intellect that put her on par with some of the greatest rulers of Western history.
Before Egypt was so thoroughly invaded by the Romans, Persians and whoever else they were African yes the brown and dark skinned ones. Over time by mixing skin tones became lighter. However when Cleopatra was around she was African/Black. Yes many Egyptians shun being "African" or Black because they have been whitewashed. Angelina doesn't fit. Halle Berry would not be cast to play the Queen of England and so Angelina should not be playing an African Queen. Stop rewriting history and giving credit to European ppl instead of African ppl. So the queen of Egypt is white and aliens created the pyramids--African ppl/Black ppl get no credit for their own history. Stop trying to take Egypt out of Africa!
Uhh, I'm so tired of black people trying to make issue of what's not even about their nations. Let's state some facts; Angelina Jolie makes a beautiful Cleopatra. First of all the northern african countries though on the contienent "Africa" are in fact "arabic" nations,and speak arabic and range in tones from black to very white but do not consider themselves to be of black african descent. If in question just ask an egyptian, morrocan or any of the african "arabic nations" if they consider themselves black, though definetly we can be brown, but we are arabian, not to offend those who are always trying to pull a race issue but get your facts correct.Perhaps we should all remember that the people living their still today very much were what was there in past. Cleopatra was a TEENAGER when she died. Read the play by Petrarch. She was very, very young. And though she may have HAD Greek heritage, she was very much consider African by the Romans. In the play by Petrarch and the remake by Shakespeare, they both refer to her as AFRICA, meaning she is the physical symbol of the inhabitants. They also refer to her having a tawny (brown) front. She is also called a gypsy. It is widely known that gypsies are brown in appearance. Cleopatra may not have been dark skinned, but from CLEOPATRA the TEXT, it is clear that she was not white like Angelina Jolie. She would have had to have a browner look because both plays distinctly testify to the difference in color of Cleopatra and the Romans. And in all of my days, I have NEVER heard of a woman of European Decent being named CLEOPATRA. Although, I have met many black women with the name.

They should give another actress a chance (who is NOT famous, but talented, not ScarJo nor Megan Fox). There are so many talented, hidden actors out there besides them.
Angelina is old and have sagging breasts. She doesnt even have a decent waistline. Shes ugly, the way she walks, the way she talks. Thats all the films for her are for ugly soul women. You dont have a fanbase anymore, your films are caricature, men like women who looks good, and women just hates you. You adopted kids all over the world so you would have a fan base in other parts of the world. You use your children, even your househelp says youre an evil woman.
I hope whoever plays this role does it justice wether it be Jolie, but I wouldnt mind seeing Racheal Weise playing her.
Yep, this is just a rumor, carefully planted by Jolie herself, to make it look like she is a highly sought after actor. I doubt it! No way she is going to be taking on this role - the movie executives must have more sense than to cast her in this role. If the movie is supposed to be based on the book, which is a biography of Cleopatra's life, then it should have someone who is more in tune with that, not the over-hyped Angelina Jolie, who cant act in a role such as this one! Puh-lease!
@mari True. Cleopatra was a diect descendant of Alexander the Great's general. It is believed her mother may have been a descendant of Alexander the Great himself. This means Cleopatra had Macedonian, Greek and Roman ancestry and all images of her show a plain looking woman, with a big nose. But as we know, Hollywood loves to glamourize everything, so the movie wont be a true depiction of real events, but have much creative license. I can only hope this is just a rumour and that they are actually going to use a different actress in the role, someone with more substance and who actually have some acting skills and more than two expression on their face!
Ugh, this has got to be a rumour, carefully placed by Angelina Jolie to make it look like the role was planned for her and her alone - I highly doubt that would be true. Next thing we'll hear is that Angelina passed on it because it conflicted with her schedule, but more likely it was that they never wanted her in the first place and she had to say that to save face. Just hoping its just unsubstantiated rumours and that the role goes to someone else who will actually act in in, not pretend to act like Angelina, with her non-expressive face!
