Evan Rachel Wood: Kate Winslet Helped Me Film Nude Scenes

When the time came for Evan Rachel Wood to bare all in the HBO mini-series Mildred Pierce (premiering March 27), the 23-year-old actress sought the advice of someone who's done it many times before: her costar, Kate Winslet.

"She coached me through my first nude scene," Wood told E! News Monday. "I mean, she's done it all. She was literally next to the camera going [thumbs-up]."
Still, the Oscar-winning actress, 35, managed to convince Wood to cover up as much as possible.

"I looked at Kate and she was like, 'You've got to do it. Trust me, it's so brave,'" Wood recalled during an interview with Fancast.com. "'Put a merkin on and you'll be fine.'" (A merkin is a pubic wig.)
"Let's just say, I had to wear a wig because it was in the '30s, and everything had to look like it was in the '30s," Wood laughed.

Winslet also advised her young costar to keep the number of on-set spectators to a minimum.
"You keep the room as empty as possible," Winslet advised. "Just kind of being there for her, really, and letting her know there was someone to hold her hand and throw a robe over her at the right moment...made her feel better."

7The film industry has gone down the toilet. It seems like actresses are required to get nude to sell a movie. The business has turned so perverted and seedy. They try to get actresses to go as far as possible. Evan Rachel Wood is only 23 years old - she's so young to make such a radical decision. Stills of her nude body and videos will be posted ALL over the web on porn sites. Why are these nude scenes even necessary? It always makes me uncomfortable to watch. And it's like the industry is strong arming actresses into going further and further --- for their own jollies. Not that it adds to the film. There are very few films which actually REQUIRE nudity. It doesn't have to be done, but the industry does it to sell movies. This is just a step above porn. I am sad that Winslet would actually encourage her..even more disgusting is calling it BRAVE. Get real. Cops, firefighters, soldiers, etc - are brave.. getting nude on film just shows lack of morals. There is nothing "brave" about it.

I'm pretty sure nude scenes aren't brave... Nude scenes just means you're willing to take your clothes off for money... trampy!
I don't think there's anything "brave" about doing a nude scene in a movie. All it means is that you don't care who sees you naked. That's not bravery. Soldiers are brave. Single parents working multiple jobs to feed and educate their kids are brave. Emergency workers are brave. There are a lot of examples of bravery in our world, Kate Winslet. Appearing naked in a movie while donning a pubic wig "because it's integral to the story" is not such an example.
A pubic WIG?! This is pathetic. Why don't men have to do as many nude scenes as women? This industry is so misogynistic. I used to have respect for Winslet, but her coaching and convincing a young woman to take off her clothes is beyond the pale.
