Relationship goals! More fans than ever appear to be completely behind Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) taking their friendship to the next level following the winter finale of Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday, November 17. Once Alex told Meredith he might take a plea bargain and head to prison, she did everything in her power to stop him. Their scenes had fans going nuts about the possibility of a potential relationship between the two OG characters, and we were right there with them.
Heating up
After Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) got called to testify, she finally decided to tell Alex the truth about her abusive marriage. Alex then opted to go to jail for two years to avoid having Jo take the stand. When he broke the news to Meredith, there was no way she was willing to let him leave without a fight. Go get him, girl!
While Meredith had a five-minute break from surgery, Alex told her that he is going to take the plea bargain. He didn’t give her the details about Jo to explain his decision but assured Meredith that she will be fine without him.
“Stop making this about me,” Grey Sloan’s head of general surgery told him. “Of course I’ll be fine. I’m always fine — don’t you know that? This is about you. You’ll be destroyed.” This appeared to plant romantic thoughts in Alex’s head about Meredith, but he still walked out and delivered what sounded like a final goodbye. The tension almost got too real for Us.
Tough decisions
Alex was waiting in the district attorney’s office when he received an emotional voice-mail from Meredith, who gave him one last pitch. “There were five of us, and now it’s just you and I, and it can’t be just me,” Meredith pleaded. “Please don’t.”
The voice-mail obviously made Alex rethink his decision and also realize how important Meredith was to him, and fans saw the seemingly lovestruck look in his eye. They need to get together ASAP, or we won’t be able to stand it.
Viewers won’t find out Alex’s fate until January, but everyone will continue to freak out and think about the potential of a Mer-Alex relationship. See the tweets below that prove fans are completely feeling the vibes between those two!
