The current cohosts of the Today show have been entertaining viewers together for years, but what if their jobs weren’t to keep fans informed about everything from the latest news to lifestyle tips? Hoda Kotb, who holds down the fourth hour of NBC’s long-running morning show, sat down with HuffPost Live on Tuesday, January 5, and offered some alternate career ideas for her colleagues when asked what else they’d be successful at.
“[Carson Daly] would be on The Voice! Oh, he already is,” she cracked about the hit singing competition’s host, before getting serious. “I think he’d stay in his music lane, 'cause you know what? The guy is meant for that. He’s got music on the brain all the time. Maybe he and I would DJ together. I’d love that!”
As for weatherman Al Roker, Kotb, 51, thinks he’d be a cartoonist. “He would be incredible! He would do something with animation … something in that world. He’s like a 3-year-old,” she laughed. “He’s quoting weird Bugs Bunny stuff, he’s into Charles Schultz and all that stuff.”
And what about Matt Lauer, who has hosted Today since 1997? “He would be golfing like he does on the weekend, or coaching. He’s great with kids,” Kotb said.
She also had a career idea for her fourth-hour partner, Kathie Lee Gifford. “Do you know where she would be? I’m telling you right now: something that is faith-based,” the Emmy winner said. “I don’t know if she’d be in Israel studying. Kathie Lee has a lot of depth in her faith, and she’s actually a very serious person even though we’re always laughing and drinking. … I think she’d be great leading up a church.”
