Talk about must-see TV: When Eric Johnson asked Jessica Simpson to marry him, she was otherwise engaged...with a juicy episode of NBC's Parenthood.

"I was watching Parenthood at the time," Simpson, 30, said of Johnson's proposal during a SIRIUS XM radio interview for The Morning Mash Up.

Her ex-NFLer beau, 31, "made me pause it," the singer explains. "I was like, 'It's a really good part in Parenthood…it's an emotional fight right now.'"

"[Eric's] like, 'I know, but I just got to show you something.'"

Once he finally got her undivided attention, Johnson asked for her hand with a Neil Lane ruby-and-diamond sparkler worth an estimated $150,000. "I was shaking [and] short of breath!" Simpson said of his surprise proposal.

As previously reported, Johnson hid the ring in a shoe in her house and forewarned her parents and sister Ashlee-Simpson Wentz three weeks before popping the question.

"It was definitely one of those moments where I’ve never felt that way before, ever," the star said in her Morning Mashup chat. "I can't believe all the Simpsons kept a secret."

The interview will air in its entirety on Thursday.

I know that short term courtships work but Jessica Simpson does not have the best history when it comes to men. Seems to me she should slow it down and really look at the guy she is engaged to who by the way doesn't seem like a great guy. Who gets divorced and then the next month proposes to someone else? Ever heard of getting to know yourself on your own? Apparently these two have not. Plus, please writing stories about them-I don't care!

I agree with Rebecca & Tricia. These two need to slow down or else I don't see their relationship working out. I would not be surprised if we all found out in the end he was just using her for money and publicity! If he doesn't have a job, how did he afford to get that ring???

idk if the proposal was done purposefully to upstage nick, but i would've waited a couple weeks or so to announce it so cuz no matter what their real intentions are, this just makes her look like she is trying to upstage nick. AMEN cristina! couldn't agree more!

Why hasn't she learned to keep her personal life private? Wasn't her first marriage disaster enough proof?

love the idea of calling it a "festival." This is a celebration of women entrepreneurs.

Can anyone type "L" for loosers. That is what these two jokers are.

I'm tired of hearing all about Jessica Simpson's proposal. I do not think this marriage will last. Her timing is questionable with Nick and Vanessa, as if she's trying to steal their moment, maybe a little jealous? I think Nick and Vanessa will be together 4 ever, but this Jessica and Eric thing is temporary! She looks like a freakin idiot anyway to be airing her special moments to the world! And what a proposal, why she was watching a movie she had to pause it? Couldn't he think of least taking her to dinner?

Wow. Just wow. He sounds like a real winner :-/ How unromantic can you get?! It's clear she orchestrated the whole thing and he was just getting it over with so she could continue her pathetic attempt to become relevant again. Major fail.

Thats our Jess.. lol.. Hilarious.. Her Xmas album is doing wonderful & its super good. Many different styles of songs & very well done. Her voice on this album is excellent. The parade should be a blast tomorrow as her appearance at ROCKFELLER center for treelighting the following week when she sings with the military gentelman from the ship. he gets to come home for Xmas.. Its a wonderful year for Jessica. Her clothing shoes & fashions are over 700 million this year also.. Great year.. Deservedly so.

This yahoo barely knows Jessica and is barely divorced. And I don't care when he proposed, you wouldn't see me announcing my engagement on the tails of the same announcement by my ex-husband a mere few days before. They are both idiots, so perhaps they will be perfect together.
