Paula Abdul's job search may be over.

The former American Idol judge is "finalizing a deal" to star in an updated version of Star Search, the 1980s-era talent competition hosted by the late Ed McMahon, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Slated for summer 2010, the Star Search reboot is said to feature Abdul serving as a combination judge and host, although details are still being worked out; an ABC rep refused to comment to EW.com.

Following Abdul's departure from Idol last year, rumors suggested that the star was headed for Dancing With the Stars as well as Idol pal Simon Cowell's upcoming X Factor show.

Unlike Idol, the original Star Search (Arsenio Hall starred in an attempted CBS remake that was cancelled during the 2003-2004 season) wasn't just for singers: actors, comedians and even models vied to win the talent contest. Alums of the syndicated show included Britney Spears.

I know, I gave my comments before, but my brother told me to tell her, that it would be nice if that show would be bought to New York, I know that she might not have the say in this but I just wanted her to think about that even if they bring one show that would make my brother happy. His name is Antonio Jimenez. Again Paula we will watch for your show, make no mistake, we want a good show about music, my brother and I love music, and who best to do this show but a great singer like you.

I'd rather see her go away. She was useless on idol. I only found her incoherency amusing. She offered no professional opinions what so ever. Go away Paula. She has no talent aside from when she use to dance.

Paula would be the reason I'd watch Star Search. She has a contagious style you can't get enough of no matter how much you see her.

Rather see her reunited with Simon on X factor.
