RELEASE DATE: IN STORES NOW

A Capitol Hill reporter (Russell Crowe) and a blogger (Rachel McAdams) land a hot story when the assistant — and mistress — of a congressman (Ben Affleck) falls under a D.C. subway train. The tautly directed thriller has a 24 season's worth of plot twists, and Crowe shines as the pit-bull journalist. One weakness: Affleck is too lightweight for his pivotal role. (Universal, $30)
