Kerry Washington and Jeff Perry
Cyrus got married (again) on Scandal in "Put a Ring On It."

It’s a nice day for a white wedding on ABC’s Scandal! Olivia Pope and Associates staged a high-stakes gay marriage between Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) and his escort boy toy, Michael (Matthew Del Negro), and tons of Gladiator-style drama ensued. Sure, love was in the air — but this is Scandal we’re talking about, and no wedding goes off without a hitch. Check out the 5 biggest jaw-droppers from this week’s romantic episode!

Goin’ To The Chapel…

Cyrus had to jump the gun on his wedding thanks to his faux loverboy Michael being caught with another man, which meant Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) spent most of this episode channeling Jennifer Lopez circa The Wedding Planner. Cyrus almost sold his fiancé out and canceled the wedding, but changed his mind after realizing that Michael’s actually a pretty decent guy. You know what that means… Cyrus is officially a married man! Let’s just hope this is a “third time’s a charm” situation.

…And We’re Gonna Get Married

Scandal fans finally got a glimpse at Cyrus’ first marriage to a woman named Janet (Emily Bergl), to whom he popped the question despite being gay. Cyrus hoped a “traditional” marriage would give him the ability to run for congress, but Janet ended up leaving him after discovering the truth about his sexual orientation. Pretty intense stuff! (Also, shoutout to Cyrus’ amazing hair during this flashback scene.)

Scandal Jeff Perry and Bellamy Young
Mellie came out in support of gay marriage during Cyrus’ big wedding in Scandal’s “Put a Ring On It” episode.

Put A Ring On It!

On to wedding No. 2: Before Cyrus said “I do” to Michael, he got hitched to none other than James Novak (Dan Bucatinsky). We got to see a few sob-inducing flashbacks to this happy couple’s union, but more importantly Olivia and President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) definitely locked lips in their honeymoon suite. And you know that gold ring Olivia wears 24/7? Fitz gave her that flashy number as a token of his love on Cyrus’ wedding day! Must…not…cry.

Love Is Love

Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) came out in support of gay marriage thanks to some prompting from her arch nemesis (aka Olivia) — and even offered to host Cyrus and Michael’s wedding at the White House! Of course, Mellie was ultimately in it for the political clout, but hey — at least this Queen Bee is taking a stand for equality. Maybe it’s time for Fitz to take a few cues from his leading lady!

It’s Handled!

Former Vice President Sally Langston (Kate Burton) spent most of this week trying to ruin Cyrus’ life (typical), and her big plan was calling his upcoming wedding a sham on live television. So, how did Olivia stop Sally in her tracks? By claiming that her late husband was one of Michael’s clients. In other words, Sally’s been handled!

Scandal airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
