Life’s a huge box of chocolates for Tom Hanks!
The Bridge of Spies star, 59, is No. 1 on a new list of America’s favorite movie stars, as determined by a Harris Poll in December. Hanks beat out other box-office heavyweights such as Johnny Depp, Jennifer Lawrence, Julia Roberts and last year’s top pick, Denzel Washington.
According to the Harris Poll, Hanks is adored by baby boomers, Americans in the west (hometown advantage, possibly — he’s a Concord, California, native!) and suburbanites all over the country.
Hanks’ title is definitely well-deserved: He’s been in more than 70 films — including Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Saving Private Ryan and the Toy Story series — since his 1980 debut in He Knows You’re Alone. Over the years, he’s expanded his role in Hollywood and has directed and produced a number of projects. He won an Outstanding Miniseries Primetime Emmy Award for the HBO miniseries Olive Kitteridge in 2015.
