Adele might not have won a Moon Man Sunday night, but her soulful performance of "Someone Like You" was one of the VMAs' most unforgettable moments.

Unlike her musical contemporaries who relied heavily on theatrics to put on a show, the 23-year-old British songstress needed only her melodic voice and powerful lyrics to elicit heartfelt reactions from stars in the crowd -- including Britney Spears!

Following the show, a source tells Us Weekly Adele and some friends headed to The Abbey to celebrate. After a few Gin and tonics, Adele and her crew tore up the dance floor!

heartbreaking performance is an understatement, in the song you can hear how hurt she is from this broken love. Anyone that has been deeply in love and it went wrong, will understand every word and cry along with her. Beautiful song and Beautiful talent.

@courtney, if you listen to the lyrics, and realize that she got emotional by the end of the performance,it is heartbreaking. anyway, Adele was best of the night by far........she doesn't even try its incredible.

Uhhh great performance, very talented singer...but I don't see the "heartbreaking" performance here?

  • September 01, 2011 - 2:18pm Joy Harrigan

@Jeff You obviously have no taste On the video, Adele is the first person in years who's actually made me want to buy their CD. I have not bought a CD in over 15 years.

Wow! The number of comments here praising this really made me want to watch it and see what I was missing out on. All I can say is Wow! People are remarkably easily impressed these days. Even the middle aged guy that performed this song on Australian X-Factor performed it better and has a much better voice. Search for X Factor Andrew Wishart on YouTube.

Adele is a reincarnation from another era. I've been a long-time fan of hers and felt like a proud parent with this impeccable performance. She is such a beautiful and talented person.

@Mary Smith: They may have asked Adele to participate in the Amy tribute, but I have read that she is painfully shy and gets very nervous, so she probably would have said no to speaking. She may have also said no to singing because she may have feared she would break down and cry. They showed her face during the tribute and she was crying. I am so thrilled that Adele is so popular. It gives me hope that people still appreciate sheer talent and incredible music that does not need the autotune program.

Absolutely amazing talent. She just lays it out there without distractions and cuts to the bone. I find it hard to watch her without emotion. She speaks to me.

OK, seriously people.... Adele ROCKS!!!!!! She tends to sing/create songs that stick in your head and leave you with no choice but to buy her music!!! I am so excited about her music (melody, content and soul) that I have let that excitement be transferred to my 6 yr old son who loves her music as well!
