Movie attendance was way, way down this past weekend -- meaning box office totals were, too.

Although The Possession came in no. 1 for the second week in a row, it earned just $9.5 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter; the no. 2 flick, Lawless, pulled in $6 million. The Words, starring Bradley Cooper, came in third, bringing in just $5 million.

Total box office revenues are expected to total no more than $67 million, making this weekend the lowest earning since the one just after the attacks on September 11, 2001. (Revenues totaled $66.5 million that particular weekend).

The right-leaning, anti-Obama documentary 2016: Obama's America managed to become the second-highest earning political documentary of all time, having brought in a total of $26 million so far. The top spot in that category still belongs to Michael Moore's Farenheit 9/11, which earned more than $119 million during its run.
