Dear Anonymous -- What do you mean by he's a "real" doctor? A Ph.D. means he's a Doctor of Philosophy; it's not a medical degree by any means, as you can have a Ph.D. in Library Science and be able to call yourself a "Doctor." Getting a Ph.D. requires time and considerable effort, but he's not a medical doctor. You need to do a little more research yourself.

What did she expect would happen seeking an intervention from a psychologist who has a national talk show?! Come on now!! She should've sought an intervention MONTHS ago with a Dr. in their own private practice.

Both parents put Dr. Phil in an awkward position. They knew very well that one way or another the media would've got wind of Dr. Phil's visit to Britney and they would in turn HOUND him for ANY info regarding his visit with her and of course he felt comfortable enough to reveal some info about it especially since her parents initially agreed to meet on the show. And let's say he didn't agree to meet with Britney that day at the hospital and something happened to her..... he would be critized for that too. He was in a no win situation the minute Lynne and Jaime involved him in the first place.

Good points. Let me also add that Lynne doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut when it comes to private family matters. She was the one who sold out Jaime Lynn to OK! mag for 1 million.

Of course she needs medical intervention. Maybe Dr. Phil shouldn't have opened his mouth but what he said is a given. I mean, Brit's aunt just basically said the same thing and no one's criticizing her. I just hope her family knows she needs medical attention. I hope the fact they don't want to discuss it is because they're taking care of it privately, NOT because they're brushing it under the rug.

Dr. Phil isnt even technically a doctor.... so he shouldn't have been the one in there talking to her in the hospital. Yes, i think it was wrong that he talked about his visit with the media, but if a REAL doctor would have been there, like there should have been, the doctor would have kept it confidential and the spears family could maybe have one less thing to complain about. but werid.. they messed up again. I guess I just hope they all learn how to get their act together... maybe a vacation away from the medias grasp.

No psychologist or psychiatrist is supposed to talk about their patient to anyone. After speaking to Britney, Dr.Phil ran straight to Entertainment Tonight to tell them what condition Britney was in. Why did he do that! It's simple, he did it for his own self promotion. If he had truly cared about getting Britney help, he would have just found a great psychiatrist for her to see, and left it at that! He would NOT have released a press statement lying about how long he had spent with Britney he said he spent an hour, when in fact he was only with her for 15 minutes. And in that time Dr.Phil was trying to get her to appear on his show, lying that her parents had already agreed to be on the show.
Dr.Phil was obviously not doing what was in Britney's best interest, but seems to have wanted to a way that he could benefit himself from the whole situation. What would have gotten him better ratings on his talk show than having Britney and her family on his show.
He acted disgracefully for a man who calls himself a psychiatrist. Can you imagine going to see a therapist, or any doctor for that matter, and then the next day finding out that he has spoken to the press about you. You would be upset, and angry as hell, as I am sure Britney and her family are! it is a total breach of trust.

Dr. Phil's actions regarding Britney Spears were completely unethical and inappropriate. The Spears family has every right to be angry. By going into her hospital room and then blabbering about her mental state on national television, he violated Britney's right to privacy and the most important principles of the right to Dr/Patient privilege. But wait, oh yeah, he's not even a licensed physician! He's a PhD in psychology! Had he had an MD, perhaps he would have known that! He has NO business going into a hospital room where he doesn't even practice medicine! Don't even get me started on the ethical issues he's breached in the past!

I just wanted to say that while being a "public figure" does open you up to a lot of public scrutiny and people getting into the entertainment industry should weigh the pros and cons of fame, that doesn't mean you lose your right to keep your medical records/status confidential. Dr. Phil, even at the family's request, should never have been allowed by Cedars to visit Britney, an adult patient who didn't request to see him nor did she seem like she wanted to see him upon his arrival. She was, for all intensive purposes, ambushed. Also, Dr. Phil shouldn't have madea statement. He thinks he can claim that he wasn't her doctor and that confidentiality wasn't breached, but that doesn't make him any less guilty. He went there under the condition that he was to help Britney and when she didn't choose to accept his help, he should have ended it there. Making a statement about her mental health was unethical and blaringly self-promoting. It was only after realizing that public opinion had turned on him for exploiting Britney that he opted to cancel his show about her. I feel sorry in a way for the Spears family because maybe it is just a case of them not having the wherewithal or the faculties to know how to help Britney, as opposed to them just using her for their own selfish (financially motivated) reasons. I only hope that someone can facilitate a meeting with the Spears family, Britney, and a reputable psychiatrist to work on the problems. She is an adult and she needs to be willing, but she also needs her family there loving her unconditionally and supporting her without any false pretenses for why they're there. But in any case, she has a right, like you or I, to expect confidentiality with regard to her medical history and any ongoing treatment.

Even though I have my personal opinion about her I would not like her to end up like that. What I really hope for is that Kevin is truly stepping up to plate with those kids. that includes the right to do whatever you wish without it being videotaped.
