Pass the tzatziki; a Mamma Mia-themed restaurant is scheduled to open in London next spring! The announcement came from ABBA band member Björn Ulvaeus on Sunday, September 2, as he confirmed the interactive dining experience – Mamma Mia! The Party – has found a home at the O2 Arena.
Per Mamma Mia! The Party’s website, the immersive experience will transport guests to a special Greek taverna on island of Skopelos, where most exteriors of the first Mamma Mia! film were shot. “The host’s only rules are dance, dine and have the time of your lives!” the website states.
In addition to feasting on tasty Greek dishes such as tzatziki, pita and moussaka, audience members will meet taverna owner Nikos and his family “as their story unfolds in a glorious night of song, dance and celebration.” As can be expected, the event also features classic ABBA songs performed by actors and musicians scattered throughout the picturesque Greek restaurant.
Though next spring marks the first time Mamma Mia! The Party will be in London, a similar interactive experience has existed in Stockholm, Sweden, for about three years.
“We have long admired The O2 and the huge entertainment success it has become under the ownership and management of AEG,” Ulvaeus said in a statement. “We believe bringing Mamma Mia! The Party to The O2 will add to this already vibrant cultural destination and provide the perfect location for our exciting new show.”
Tickets for the upcoming London experience are expected to go on sale this fall.
