Motherhood is one Big Miracle for Drew Barrymore. In an interview conducted prior to the April 22 birth of her second daughter, Frankie, the Blended actress, 39, gushed to the U.K.'s Red magazine that she loves having kids. (She and husband Will Kopelman are also parents to Frankie's big sister Olive, 18 months.)
"I am loving being a mom," the Big Miracle star raved (per the Daily Mail). "Olive is a year and a half now, so…[the girls] will be close together in age. I think, just get it done—it will be awesome!"
Barrymore noted, too, that she's a very hands-on parent. "We spend every weekend together," she told the mag. "We don't have a babysitter. It's just us."
That family dynamic is very different from the one the actress herself experienced when she was growing up. "My parents split up before I was born, and my dad was just never capable of being a father," she explained. "It's something I really accepted and became okay with early on. But it's shocking to me that someone can make that choice. As much as I accepted it with him, I could never accept it in a partner."
"For some people, showing up is just not possible, and that is incredibly frustrating," she continued. "When you become a parent, and think about what kids need, it is very emotional."
One way in which Barrymore has changed since welcoming Olive in October 2012? She's learned to cook! Or, rather, she's learning to cook.
"Over the summer I'm going to cooking school. I really love cooking, it makes me so happy. But I'm terrible at it. None of it is effortless or sexy or even tastes that good for that matter, but I'm really working on it," she confessed to Red. "I might travel somewhere to do it, and bring the family. I love cooking for Olive now, but I used to be Mrs. Takeout…I've just never learned to cook in my life."
Pal Cameron Diaz, on the other hand, is "a great cook, and always has been," Barrymore told the mag of her Charlie's Angels costar, with whom she and Reese Witherspoon took a cooking class in Napa Valley last month. "I'm just trying to catch up to that," she said.
