In a fickle industry where perfectly applied lipstick or an elegant undo can override talent, a skilled glam squad is key. Lucky A-listers like Emily Blunt, Gwen Stefani, and Cameron Diaz — with both beauty and talent — explain how they struck it big with their reliable hairstylists and makeup artists in The Hollywood Reporter’s third annual beauty issue.
In a surprising twist, Blunt, 31, has her husband John Krasinski to thank for bringing makeup artist Jenn Streicher, who also works with Hugh Jackman, Margot Robbie, and Vanessa Hudgens, on board. “I was like, ‘Um, by the way, if your girlfriend ever needs to do her makeup let me know,” Streicher told the mag after meeting The Office star. Blunt added, “She said, ‘I want to get my hands on that face.’ She did and it’s been on my face ever since.”
Stefani, 45, never goes anywhere without her hairstylist Danilo. The pair met at a fashion week show years ago and have been inseparable since. “At that time, it was a big deal to spend money on a rock-star dresser,” Stefani said. “We flew him in from New York and we did the ‘Simple Kind of Life’ video and he did this really big pink afro. I was addicted to him ever since.”
Dying to know the duo behind Diaz’s youthful look? The Other Woman star has entrusted makeup artist Lona Vigi and hairstylist Robin Fredriksz with her look for over 12 years. “It’s always an equation for every red carpet,” Diaz, 42, said. “Once we have a dress, then these two go off of the inspiration of that dress and then these two try to complete the look, together.”
