Ain’t no trend like a ’90s trend!
Kim Kardashian hopped on Instagram on Thursday, May 21, to share a snap of her 23-month-old daughter, North West, and the tot’s latest beauty statement: butterfly hair clips.
The photo features little North clad in a long-sleeved black leotard and tights. But, as it was shot from above, it also puts the smallest West’s double-bun ‘do, accented by at least six colorful butterflies, on full display. Fittingly, Kardashian captioned the pic, “My little butterfly.”
Talk about a #TBT! While North may have grabbed the little buggers just because they’re so sweet, the bouncy little hair accessories were a staple of ’90s fashion, worn by celebs on the screen and red carpet alike. Feeling nostalgic? Come take a walk through memory lane with Us!
In movies and on TV, stars like Hilary Duff (as Lizzie McGuire), Melissa Joan Hart (as Sabrina the Teenage Witch), and Britney Spears (in Crossroads) all rocked the fun accessory as either a wobbly hair clip or a small comb clip. (Flower snaps were also involved.)

Master of the cornrow and clip! (BTW: Back in Nov. 2014, Buzzfeed asked Duff where Lizzie would be today, and this was her answer: “Maybe she’d move to New York for a while. I think she’s pretty smart. I can imagine her being on a path to something really special and great… And she’d probably still be wearing butterfly clips, bringing it back!”)

Not a girl, not yet a woman, but definitely a slave for the butterfly clip trend.
The fierce clips also popped up on red carpets, too. Mila Kunis, Kirsten Dunst, and Drew Barrymore (of course!) were just a few of the fab ladies who worked butterfly clips into their evening ensembles.

Coordinating with those beaded accents on the dress, we see! Butterfly clip accessorizing done right.
Kirsten Dunst (1997)
Up-at-all-angles hair? Bring it on.

Okay, this was was technically from a red carpet appearance in the aughts. But she’s proving that the butterfly clip is a truly timeless accessory! Would you expect North to rock anything less?
