Bittersweet cupcake. One of the biggest (and saddest!) moments from the Monday, June 29, episode of The Bachelorette was when Kaitlyn Bristowe let one of her suitors, Chris “Cupcake” Strandburg, know that she was letting him go.
After a picturesque date over the scenic Cliffs of Moher in Ireland, Kaitlyn and Cupcake — who earned his name after his dramatic and sweet entrance on the first episode — enjoyed a romantic outdoor picnic overlooking the sea.
“I also like stuff like this,” Chris told her in the intimate moment. “I like adventures. I’ve had a lot of fun this entire time.” Typically, the moment would have been welcomed with a sweet smooch, but in this case, the Bachelorette cried.
“When I’m with you, it’s so good,” she told the Nashville-based dentist, sniffling. “And I have this checklist, and you’re it every time. It’s been that way since you got here, but I also promised myself that I wouldn’t lead any relationship on… I feel like my heart is elsewhere right now. You are everything I want in somebody and I don’t feel like I fully see it. And I don’t know why! This is the hardest thing, like, so far for me right now, in this moment, to say bye to you.”
Shocked by Bristowe’s dramatic exit and confession, Cupcake stood on the edge of the cliff slowly unraveling before the cameras. “I think that she’s wrong, and I don’t think she really knows what she wants, but I would much rather know now than next year or in 20 years,” the dejected suitor said. “It sucks and it feels as bad as it looks.”
Then, things got really ugly. As Kaitlyn flew off in her helicopter, Cupcake — with his perfect hair coiffe and scarf — started to cry. It got so emotional that he had to hide his head in his coat. “I’ve never seen it….” he continued between sobs with incoherent mumbles. “I’ve never….”
Cupcake wasn’t the only one to get the boot on Monday’s episode. Other suitors to be eliminated included JJ Lane, who confessed to Kaitlyn that he had cheated on his wife, Tanner, Jared, and surprisingly, Ben Z. Remaining suitors include the controversial Nick Viall, Shawn, Joe, and Ben H.
