Looking good — for herself! Continuing to support her just-dropped record, Revival, Selena Gomez sat down with Refinery29 to discuss the album’s fresh sound, not to mention its steamy cover art, which features the “Good for You” singer posing topless in a sizzling (but tasteful!) black and white photo.
“It’s not something where I’m like, let me glorify what I do in the bedroom,” Gomez, 23, shared, referencing the sexy snap. “But I think I have a very healthy perspective on my sexuality. It’s part of being an adult, and I’m still figuring out how to be one of those, too.”
It seems she’s on her way, though! The Latina stunner, whose battle with Lupus — not to mention haters on social media — helped to inspire the introspective album, said that she calls on her close group of friends to get her through the tough times.
Giving shout-outs to her two roommates, her cousin, and her BFF of eight years, Taylor Swift, Gomez said, “I have a lot of friends in the business, but at the end of the day, [these four women] are who I call crying. They see my best and my worst.”
As for the Disney Channel ladies she grew up with — namely Miley Cyrus and former best friend Demi Lovato — Gomez notes that they’re all different, and she’s happy about that. “Everyone has found their identity in a really interesting way. We didn’t come out as these robots that looked and dressed the same. We had to go through our own s—t,” the multi-hyphenate, who posed for the website in Louis Vuitton and Sass & Bide threads, shared. “At the end of the day, it’s respecting every female artist’s choice in how she expresses herself, because that’s what she wants.”
As for her own desires? The “Same Old Love” singer said that she’s ready (for everyone) to move beyond her tumultuous relationship with ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. “At this point, there is no anger. There’s closure in a very good, healthy way,” she said. “We’ve seen each other. I’m always encouraging and I am proud of his journey. I think people are making it out to be something that is more tragic than it really was. We grew up together. We both made mistakes. That’s it.”
