Just like Us. Jennifer Lawrence opened up about facing insecurity in a new interview and admitted that she sometimes feels like “garbage” when stepping out at glamorous events such as Paris Fashion Week.
Chatting with Vanity Fair for the cover story of its holiday issue, the genetically blessed actress, 26, revealed that not even she is immune to self-doubt.
“You get ready in your hotel, and you’re like, ‘I look awesome,’” she told the mag of attending PFW in the past. “Then you walk outside, see the outfits and people who are, like, seven feet tall, and are like, ‘I am a piece of garbage. I’m not going out anymore.’”
Aside from the unease over dressing up for public outings, Lawrence told VF about another unfortunate side effect of fame: her lack of privacy.
“You might think you know me, but when you approach me, you’re a total stranger to me, and I’m scared. I get very protective of my space. It took me a long time to be able to do that,” the Hunger Games alum — whose naked photos were stolen and posted online in 2014 during a widespread iCloud hack of celebs’ cellphones — explained. “But if I’m eating dinner, and somebody comes up, and a flash goes off from someone’s iPhone camera, I am really rude to that person.”
The Passengers star added: “Then other people at the restaurant will see and be like, ‘Oh, damn, I don’t want to do that.’ Privacy is a full-time job, and I work very hard at it.”
J. Law, who is currently dating film director Darren Aronofsky, previously spoke about the importance of protecting her personal life during a September 2015 interview with French magazine Madame Figaro.
“I realized that whatever I do, at any level, I would lose a part of my private life. For each ‘everyday’ photo published, I generally spent three hours playing cat and mouse with photographers,” she said at the time, adding that she is not a fan of social media. “All that doesn’t interest me for a second!” she says. “I’m always hundreds of emails behind.”
