Anton Yelchin Mourned at Private Funeral for Family and Friends

Anton Yelchin was remembered in a private funeral attended by his loved ones on Friday, June 24, Us Weekly can confirm.

As previously reported, the Star Trek actor died at the age of 27 outside his home in L.A.’s Studio City neighborhood in the early hours of Sunday, June 19. Yelchin’s 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled down his driveway and pinned him against his brick mailbox pillar and security fence.

Yelchin was on his way to meet with friends at the time. On June 21, Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told Us that the star “most likely died within a minute or so” of blunt traumatic asphyxiation.

Following the tragedy, it was revealed that Yelchin’s vehicle may have been involved in a recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that some electronic gearshifts in 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees didn’t work properly. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) released a statement about the matter on June 20.

“FCA US extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Yelchin,” the Michigan-based company told The Wrap. “The company will be conducting a thorough investigation of this tragic incident. It is premature to speculate on its cause at this time.”

Yelchin was best known for starring in films such as Alpha Dog, Star Trek and Like Crazy. According to his IMDb page, he most recently wrapped the dramas We Don’t Belong Here and Porto. Star Trek Beyond, the third installment in the rebooted franchise, is set to hit theaters on July 22.

Many of Yelchin’s former Star Trek costars have continued to pay their respects since his death. “Our dear friend. our comrade. our anton. one of the most open and intellectually curious people i have ever had the pleasure to know,” Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the franchise, captioned an Instagram photo last week. “So enormously talented and generous of heart. wise beyond his years. and gone before his time. all love and strength to his family at this impossible time of grief.”

Your life has been cut short, but I will always tell everyone about you.”
