Whoops! Taraji P. Henson learned that drinking and tweeting isn’t always the best plan during the Super Bowl 50 on Sunday, February 7. The Empire actress, 45, was tweeting from a suite in the Levi’s Stadium, when she accidentally posted, “YAAAAAAASSSSSS!!!! #maroon5 is life to me!!! #superbowl50 #HappyCamper.”
When Henson realized that the Halftime Show headliner was actually Coldplay, she deleted the tweet and added, “Oooooooopppps. Lmao! #Superbowl50.”
After the game, Entertainment Tonight asked Henson about her social media mix-up.
“So, I don’t know if you know how it goes down in the suites,” she tried to explain. “They put a lot of drinks in there — Kool-Aid, lemonade, iced tea. I mixed it all, and I sat there, and I’m sitting with people who drank the Kool-Aid as well.”
She went on to add that her friends were the ones who insisted that the California-based band Maroon 5 was on the stage, not British group Coldplay.
“Everyone’s talking about Maroon 5, and I put it down,” she said. “And I’m like, ‘That’s not Maroon 5, right?’ And they’re like, ‘No, that’s Maroon 5!’ and I’m like, ‘Are you sure?’”
After the initial post went up and started making headlines, Henson said her pals immediately warned her to take it down.
“Everybody texted me ‘Change your post! Change your post!’” she said. “I [thought] they were mad because I didn’t give all my eyes to Beyoncé, and I’m like ‘The Beyoncé post is coming!’ Then I realized it was Coldplay.”
Naturally, the Fox star was embarrassed, but she didn’t let it get to her too much.
“I’m human. I made a mistake. It happens!” she said. “Come on, I drank the Kool-Aid!”
