Time to pack their bags! Kate Middleton and Prince William are set to make their first trip to India and Bhutan together this spring, and the royal couple may already have a few items on their “must-do” list.
For one thing, the pair might just re-create the late Princess Diana’s famous 1992 photo at the Taj Mahal.
In the headline-making image, Diana, then 30 years old, sits alone on a bench in front of the breathtaking structure. The stone bench is now affectionately known as Lady Di’s Chair. (Prince Charles was also on the trip, but Diana visited the Taj Mahal alone; Charles was committed to a business leaders’ forum at the same time as the visit, but his absence further highlighted the couple’s marital problems.)
The beloved royal died on August 31, 1997, in a tragic car crash at the age of 36. She and Prince Charles had called it quits on their tumultuous marriage just one year earlier.
“TRHs look forward to following in the footsteps of previous generations of their family with their upcoming tours,” the official Twitter account for Kensington Palace tweeted on Friday, January 8, alongside photos of Princess Diana, Prince Charles and the Queen on their respective visits to India and Bhutan.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 33, will also meet Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, along with his glamorous wife, Queen Jetsun Pema, during their visit to the country.
The source tells Us that little Prince George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, 7 months, won’t accompany their parents on the weeklong trip.
Prince Harry will be making his own global travels in the spring as well. The 31-year-old royal will be visiting Nepal for the first time.
“There have been many royal visits to Nepal over the years including The Queen, Duke of Edinburgh & Prince of Wales,” Kensington Palace tweeted.
