Born Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa on August 1, 1979, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the aspiring actor’s career was discovered by designers who encouraged him to start a modeling portfolio in 1998. The following year, Momoa won Hawaii’s Model of the Year and booked his first gig as Jason Ioane in the series Baywatch Hawaii.
Momoa then booked a series of TV guest appearances including North Shore, Johnson Family Vacation and The Game. After booking a recurring role on Stargate: Atlantis as Ronon Dex, he got his big break as Khal Drogo in season 1 of Game of Thrones. The Hawaii native continued to have steady jobs after his character was killed off the HBO drama, but he found major success portraying Aquaman in the DC Extended Universe, which includes movies Justice League and his 2018 solo movie Aquaman.
In 2005, Momoa’s personal life made headlines after he started seeing Lenny Kravitz’s ex Lisa Bonet. While the twosome were rumored to get married in 2007, they did not actually tie the knot until October 2017. Momoa and Bonet share daughter Lola and son Nakoa-Wolf.
In 2019, Us Weekly readers crowned Momoa the “Hottest Hunk in Hollywood.”
