When Rosario Dawson was asked to share the craziest thing she’s ever done for love, the 38-year-old didn’t need a moment to think of a good response.
“Adopting my child,” Dawson revealed to Us Weekly at the L.A. premiere of her new dramedy Krystal. “It’s so life-changing.”
The Sin City star became a first-time mother when she adopted a 12-year-old girl in 2014. “She’s always been family-oriented,” a source told Us at the time. “She wants to have a relationship with her daughter like she has with her own mother.”
Though Dawson has been fairly private about her experience as a mother, she did reveal to Us a lesson she has been teaching her teen.
“When you’re making choices from the best intentions, you really have no idea where it’s going to take you,” Dawson shared. “Actually I just taught my daughter, and now she’s saying it back to me, ‘If you want to make God laugh, make a plan.’”
Dawson also praised William H. Macy, who directed the film that opens in theaters on Friday, April 13. “He’s just worked on this for 10 years, this is his baby,” she gushed. “I think he’s acted out every single character. He would come in and just do all the characters.” She particularly appreciated the Shameless actor’s hands-on approach.
“I was like, ‘Oh, OK. Got it. I see what you’re doing,’” she told Us. “It was really helpful because the comedy and tone is not something I’m always so comfortable with or used to doing.”
