Like mother, like daughter! Serena Williams’ 19-month old daughter, Alexis Olympia, might have a future in tennis, given the video the Wimbledon champ shared on Instagram on Monday, April 22.
In the clip, Alexis Olympia twirls a tennis racquet, throws it to the floor, runs to a closet to get another, tosses that one on the floor and gets another. “History in the making….” Williams, 37, wrote in the caption to the clip.
The mother-daughter connection wowed Instagram commenters, including Alexis Ohanian, Williams’ husband and Alexis Olympia’s father. “Smash that racket, babygirl!” the Reddit cofounder, 35, wrote.
Actress Olivia Wilde also commented on the post, writing, “Already better than me.” And the Instagram account for tennis brand Wilson asserted that Alexis Olympia is a “future Grand Slam Champ.”
Williams opened up about her daughter to Good Housekeeping earlier this month, revealing that Alexis Olympia is a ball of energy. “She loves to dance,” the four-time Olympic gold medalist said at the time. “It’s her favorite thing. It’s my favorite thing, too. She loves running. She’s experimenting with sprinting, I like to say. She loves being crazy and wild. … I think ‘wild’ has a negative connotation. But I don’t think it should be a bad word in terms of babies. It should be more like curious, exploring or excited. Babies are so innocent.”
That same week, the tennis champion discussed parenting advice in an interview with E! News. “Accept mistakes and don’t expect to be perfect,” she recommended. “We put so much pressure on ourselves. My friend is pregnant, and she was like, ‘My kid’s gonna do this,’ [and] I just looked at her, like, ‘No, she’s not.’ … She was like, ‘I need to talk to you about tips,’ because, yes, I had all of those high expectations.”
She might be sharing those tips with friend Duchess Meghan, who’s preparing for the birth of her first child with her husband, Prince Harry. “She’ll be the best mom, for sure,” Williams said of the 37-year-old royal in the interview.
