In it together! Tyler Hilton described how helpful his group text with fellow One Tree Hill alums has been since becoming a father in February.
“Everyone’s so supportive,” the actor, 36, who played Chris Keller on the CW show, told Today on Wednesday, September 2. “They started a One Tree Hill dad chat on Father’s Day. It was the cutest thing. … I was thinking, ‘Dude, if any of us thought we’d one day be on a Father’s Day chat together, we would’ve been like, ‘What?’ It was wild.”
The chat includes Chad Michael Murray, Paul Johansson, Kieren Hutchison, Lee Norris and Antwon Tanner. While Tanner, 45, “leads the way,” the other actors often “forget he’s even a dad because he’s so cool,” Hilton said. “He’s got adult children, but doesn’t seem like a dad.”
The California native said they’re mostly “joking around” in the group text, noting, “I remember when we were younger, trying to figure out how to be adults. Now we’re figuring out how to be parents. I’m sure all of this will seem charmingly immature in 10 years. We’ll look back and laugh, ‘Look at us trying to figure out diapers!’”
Hilton and his wife, Megan Park, became parents when their daughter Winnie, now 6 months, arrived. As for Murray, 39, and wife Sarah Roemer, they share two kids, while Johansson, 56, has son Quinn. Hutchison, 45, and Norris, 38, both have a son, and Tanner has welcomed four children with his wife.
The OTH actors aren’t the only ones pitching in with parenting tips — Hilarie Burton has been “checking on” Hilton as well!
“She’s super-invested in us having a kid,” he said on Wednesday of the Rural Diaries author, 38, who shares Gus, 10, and George, 2, with husband Jeffrey Dean Morgan. “She was really involved with helping us prepare for the birth and we’ve FaceTimed with her son, Gus, who’s so into Winnie.”
The “When I See You, I See Home” singer is also “obsessed” with his and Park’s little one, he wrote via Instagram in February. “It feels like we’ve known her our whole lives already and being her Dad the most natural thing I’ve ever done,” he explained at the time. “To say I’m obsessed doesn’t quite do it justice.”
