Third time’s a charm! Kobe Bryant and his wife, Vanessa, are expecting their third child together, the former basketball star announced on Tuesday, July 12.
“Beyond blessed and excited to share that we are expecting our third baby girl!!!” the athlete, 37, captioned the photo of a onesie that reads “Baby Mamba” and a pair of tiny red sneakers. “#Blessed #BabyMamba #Thankful”
The wording on the onesie alludes to Kobe’s nickname, the Black Mamba.
The retired Los Angeles Lakers star met Vanessa, now 34, in November 1999 when she was only 17. The couple married in 2001 and welcomed their first child, daughter Natalia, in 2003 and daughter Gianna in 2006.
But things haven’t always been so happy for the longtime pair. The model filed for divorce from her husband in December 2011 after a decade of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences.
They revealed in January 2013 that they had called off the divorce. “We are pleased to announce that we have reconciled,” Vanessa shared on Instagram at the time. “We are looking forward to our future together.”
Kobe also shared the news on his Facebook page, writing at the time, “I am happy to say that Vanessa and I are moving on with our lives together as a family. When the show ends and the music stops, the journey is made beautiful by having someone to share it with.”
Since then, their journey has included the NBA superstar’s retirement on April 13 this year, when he hung up his No. 24 jersey after a game against the Utah Jazz. The Olympian led the Lakers to a 101 to 96 win, scoring 60 points in his 1,346th and final game.
