Putting rumors to rest. In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Teen Mom OG star Amber Portwood’s fiancé, Matt Baier, sets the record straight about allegations that he secretly fathered seven children with multiple women.
“People made the assumption that I was some serial fornicator that was impregnating everybody and then just disappearing,” Baier, 44, tells Us.
Though he admits a woman claiming to be the mother of his sixth child “hasn’t been disproven yet,” the recovered addict insists he never lied to the mom of Leah, 7, about his past, as Gary Shirley (Portwood’s ex and father of her daughter) alleged on camera this past season.
“Amber knows everything,” says Baier, who clarifies that he has five kids, not seven. And according to the Boston native, those children — ages 13 to 25 — were the products of three long-term, committed relationships.
While Shirley’s claims caused drama on the show, the 25-year-old MTV star and Baier (who began dating in October 2014) have worked hard to get their relationship back on track.
“He was a womanizing user. He was an addict, and that’s not an excuse, but that’s the type of person he was,” the Never Too Late author said earlier this season on Teen Mom OG. “We went through a rough patch because of this, because I had no trust in him anymore. We had to rebuild our trust again in our relationship.”
Now the reality-TV couple are moving forward and looking to the future. Together they’ve started a house-flipping business in Indiana and are in the early stages of planning their wedding, set to take place in Malibu later this year.
“Amber and I are not ashamed of our pasts,” Baier adds. “We are the ultimate team.”
