She’s back! Two months after Avril Lavigne admitted that she was suffering from undisclosed health problems, the “Complicated” singer returned this week with a new video clip.
Lavigne, 30, debuted a teaser for her new single “Give You What You Like,” off of her self-titled fifth studio album. The track is featured in the upcoming Lifetime movie Babysitter’s Black Book, and scenes from the film are included in the video.
Juxtaposed with shots from the drama, Lavigne looks healthy in the music video. With her trademark long blonde hair down and straight, the alt-rock singer croons, “When you turn off the lights / I get stars in my eyes / Is this love? / Maybe someday / I’ve got this scene in my head / I’m not sure how it ends / Is it love? / Maybe one day / So don’t turn on the lights / I’ll give you what you like.”
For months prior to the debut of the video clip, Lavigne stayed largely out of the public eye. She celebrated her 30th birthday with a bash in Las Vegas this past September, but chose not to make appearances since.
In December, Lavigne began to field questions from fans as to her whereabouts. A fan Twitter account under the handle of @AvrilMusicChart posted a screenshot of direct messages with Lavigne, in which she spoke about her health issues.
“I feel bad because I haven’t been able to say anything to fans to let them [know] why I’ve been absent,” she reportedly said at the time. “I’m torn as I’m quite private… I’m not feeling well. I’m having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers.”
While she chose not to give any further information on her mysterious illness, Lavigne did tweet to her supporters that week, “Thank you to all the fans for the sweet get well messages and all the tweets. I appreciate the lovely notes and well wishes from everyone.”
