We’re still crying about Brangelina! While the numbers weren’t quite as staggering as in 2015, several A-list couples called it quits this year, including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney and more. Watch the video above to revisit the saddest splits of 2016!
The world was shocked and thought true love might be dead after Jolie, 41 filed for divorce from Pitt, 52, in September — effectively ending one of the most talked-about Hollywood unions (we’re talking top 3!) of all time. While it was a long time coming, the ultimate decision to end their 12-year relationship reportedly resulted from an alleged incident aboard a private jet involving the Allied actor and his eldest son, Maddox. The FBI opened an investigation into the situation, but Pitt was later cleared of child abuse allegations. Pitt is now seeking joint custody of the former couple’s six children — but he’s seen them only a handful of times since their messy separation.
Another heartbreaking split that no one anticipated: Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney. The pair called off their engagement in July after five years together. The pop star, 30, and the Chicago Fire actor, 35, who met on the set of Gaga’s 2011 music video “You and I,” are still amicable exes, however. “Taylor and I have always believed we are soulmates. Just like all couples we have ups and downs, and we have been taking a break,” Gaga wrote on Instagram in July. “Please root us on. We’re just like everybody else and we really love each other.”
This year was once again a roller coaster for Taylor Swift, who had two high-profile relationships fizzle out in 2016. The 26-year-old ended her romance with Calvin Harris in June after 15 months of dating. Two weeks later, she went public with her relationship with Tom Hiddleston when the duo were photographed kissing near her Rhode Island beach house. The “Bad Blood” singer and the Thor actor, 35, traveled to Australia, Rome, London and Nashville and even met each other’s parents, but their whirlwind romance cooled off in September.
