Chrissy Teigen fulfilled every video gamer’s wildest fantasy on Nov. 26 when she threw a Mario Brothers-themed birthday party, dressed head to toe like blond racer Princess Peach. The sexy and often-candid supermodel threw the Nintendo bash in honor of her 28th birthday, which officially takes place on Nov. 30.
By her side was hubby John Legend, who fully committed to his role as Mario, wearing the video game character’s thick mustache, token costume, and pot belly. Teigen Instagrammed a picture with her husband of two months with the caption, “AHERE WE GO #nintendobirthday.”
No celebs attended the birthday celebrations, with Teigen and Legend instead inviting about 40 of their friends to partake in the festivities, which went down in West Hollywood. The party had a giant photo room with Super Mario-style props including palm trees and the signature green tube Mario and Luigi pop in and out of.
There were also stations for guests to play Super Mario 3D World for the Wii U and gold coins and giant toad mushrooms surrounded the room for decor.
Teigen had specific reasons for her costume for the night that went far beyond wanting to dress like a princess.
“Mario Kart is definitely my sh–, that’s why I’m Princess Peach because she’s the fastest,” she told Us Weekly at the party. “She has the highest acceleration no matter what anyone else does on there.”
She also loves playing her new husband in Mario, mostly because she knows she can win.
“He’s not f—ing good at Mario, like he’s good at sports stuff, like football games and blah, blah, blah, but he’s not good — which is why I love playing him,” she said laughing. “He’s terrible, he has no strategy.”
For her actual birthday, Legend will be playing a show in Las Vegas, but Teigen will be there rooting for her smooth-singing stud, whom she wed in Lake Como, Italy on Sept. 14, 2013. The model recently chopped off her locks and jokes that it’s a byproduct of her recent marriage.
“It’s kind of funny because John and I always talk about like, ‘Oh people get married, they chop all their hair off or they wear sweatpants,'” she said. “And I was like no! I’m never going to do that. And then I chopped all my hair off. But I figured I didn’t do a pixie, so I’m okay for now. But yeah, he loves it!”
As for her husband, he was clearly eating up the theme of the night, bopping around the room and joking with friends.
“I guess the best part [of being married] is just knowing that you’re going to be with your best friend forever, you know?” Teigen told Us. “And then, I mean getting to make fun of the same person for the rest of your life is pretty fantastic. Like, look at him [at this point John is still bopping around in the corner like Mario]. Are you kidding me? Like, this is what I am having sex with tonight. Look at this.”
