Portuguese soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo and fiancée Georgina Rodríguez are officially married after nearly 10 years together.
“Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez were married today in a civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, and are now officially husband and wife,” a statement shared with Us read on Tuesday, August 11. “The ceremony was a private and intimate moment attended by their five children.”
Ronaldo met Rodríguez while she was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store in early 2017 and began dating soon after. The Argentine-Spanish model later described the start of their romance as a “very special start” during her 2022 Netflix series I Am Georgina.
“Many times he’d come [to see me] after work,” she recalled. “He would come, I remember once, once in a Bugatti. My coworkers went crazy. They get there on the bus, and I would leave in a Bugatti. I mean, people couldn’t believe it.”
Ronaldo and Rodríguez made their first public appearance together at the Best FIFA Football Awards in Zurich in January 2017. They made their romance Instagram official that May.
In June 2017, Ronaldo welcomed twins Eva Maria and Mateo via surrogate. (The athlete is also a dad to son Cristiano Jr., 16. The identity of the teen’s mother has been kept private.)
“So happy to be able to hold the two new loves of my life,” he captioned a photo of himself with his newborn babies.
One month after his twins were born, Ronaldo and Rodríguez announced that they were expecting their first child together. When asked by Spanish publication El Mundo if he was happy about the news, Ronaldo responded, “Yes, very.”
Rodríguez also spoke about her transition into motherhood in an August 2017 cover story for ¡HOLA!
“I’m very family oriented, I love kids, nature and animals,” she said at the time. “I like to surround myself with those who inspire me to be a better person every day and who have good energy.”
Ronaldo and Rodríguez’s daughter, Alana Martina, was born in November 2017.
“We both chose the name. Cristiano chose Alana and I chose Martina,” Rodríguez told ¡HOLA! In another cover story. “We decided to give her both names that each of us chose. We thought it was even more special.”
Gushing about her romance with Ronaldo, Rodríguez added, “When I have him next to me, I have everything. The children are our happiness — we wake up and the first thing we do is hug and kiss them.”
In October 2021, the couple announced that they were expecting twins. Ronaldo and Rodríguez welcomed daughter Bella Esmeralda in April 2022. Their son, Ángel, tragically died during childbirth.
“It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel,” Ronaldo and Rodríguez shared at the time. “Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.”
Four years after the loss of their baby, Rodríguez announced her engagement to Ronaldo.
“Yes I do,” she captioned a photo of her massive diamond sparkler. “In this and in all my lives.”
