What’s the cameo count on this one? Drake called upon a few of his big name friends — or at least, their famous faces — for the premise of his new music video for “Energy.”
In the edgy video, the “Take Care” rapper morphs into a number of his boldfaced contemporaries, including Kanye, Justin Bieber, and Miley Cyrus, taking on their personas in “Bound 2,” Calvin Klein ads, and “Wrecking Ball,” respectively.
But he’s taking on more than just the megastars of music. At different points throughout the video, he also impersonates Oprah Winfrey, President Obama, O.J. Simpson, LeBron James, and a Ken doll.
The 28-year-old singer told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe on Friday, July 10, that the video is “shocking, it’s beautiful, it’s a lot of things.”
“I got enemies, got a lot of enemies,” he raps on the track. “Got a lot of people tryna drain me of this energy.”
The Grammy-winning artist has indeed come under fire in recent months following the February release of his album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.
In May, he and legendary singer Madonna locked lips during a Coachella performance, only to have the 56-year-old pop icon later diss him on national television.
“You asked the million dollar question,” she told a fan during a Q&A with Saturday Night Online a few days after the infamous smooch. “I kissed a girl and I liked it.”
“Don’t kiss Drake,” she elaborated. “No matter how many times he begs you to.”
