Bighearted tough guy! Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has come to the aid of a tiny pup named in his honor, who needed life-saving surgery after being abandoned.
Actress Michelle Trchtenberg brought the pup to the Furious 7 star’s attention on Monday, Nov. 23, tweeting Johnson a link to a story about the 4-month-old dog who was found abandoned at a shelter with heavy wire wrapped around his mouth.
While the shelter was able to remove the wire and give the mutt stitches, subsequent investigations revealed he suffered from a heart murmur which needed surgery to treat.
“This puppy named after @TheRock was tortured, abandoned!,” Trachtenberg wrote. “He needs our help for life saving surgery.”
It didn’t take long before the big-hearted actor replied.
“This is rough to read about,” Johnson tweeted on Tuesday. “Poor lil’ pup abandoned w/ a wire wrapped around his mouth. I’ll help. Stay strong pup.”

The hunky actor then donated $1,500 to the dog’s page, giving a great boost to the shelter’s attempts to raise $5,000.
And it was all the help they needed. “Knowing that ‘The Rock’ has got Dwayne the puppy’s back, we are confident he will be a fighter and make it through this,” the shelter wrote in an update to their page on Wednesday, Nov. 25. “Thank you all for your generous donations- thanks to you we have met our goal.”
Johnson is a long-time animal lover and lost his own beloved French bulldog back in September.
“Lots of good people chipped in for the lil’ guy,” Johnson wrote via Twitter on Wednesday evening. “Plus the pup has the Coolest. Name. Ever.”
