Friends forever! Gwyneth Paltrow bestowed the ultimate compliment upon her ex Chris Martin at the amFAR Inspiration Gala in L.A., on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
The actress, 42, introduced the evening’s surprise guest performers — Martin and his Coldplay bandmate Jonny Buckland — on stage. “This brilliant singer-songwriter has sold 8 million records and has won every award imaginable,” Paltrow told the star-studded crowd, “including father of the year, which he has won consecutively since 2004!”
Paltrow’s comments come days after Us Weekly confirmed that the father to Apple, 10, and Moses, 8, had split from Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence after four months of dating.
According to an observer, people audibly gasped when Martin walked out. “They weren’t expecting to see him,” the eyewitness tells Us. He and Buckland then performed their group’s smash singles, “Paradise” and “Viva La Vida.”
At one point, Martin joked that Tom Ford — who was honored at the gala for his work with amFAR — only gave him and Buckland one suit to share. “Tom Ford would not give us underpants, so we’re both going commando.”
Paltrow, meanwhile, garnered sartorial praise for her Tom Ford ensemble at the event. An observer on the red carpet tells Us that the mother of two “looked incredible” in her black cutout tuxedo pantsuit. According to the eyewitness, the star was “immediately” flanked by a “ton of men,” all who were gushing about how amazing she looked.
The actress certainly felt the love from her fellow stars at the gala Wednesday evening. Sharon Stone also praised Paltrow in her speech, saying: “We thank you for your inner and outer beauty, which you’ve demonstrated by the fact of how you get along with your ex-husband.”
