Jimmy Fallon was joined by David Alan Grier on the Wednesday, Oct. 14 episode of The Tonight Show to give viewers a taste of what Donald Trump and Ben Carson would’ve been talking about if they’d had a phone call during Tuesday night’s Democratic debate.
Carson (when he could be roused from sleep) was the perfect foil for Fallon’s jokes, who gave one-liner after one-liner in the role of the Republican presidential candidate, while their dialogue was intercut with real snippets of the CNN debate.
At one point Lincoln Chafee referred to himself as a “block of granite.” Trump (aka Fallon) did not agree. “He looks like a turtle that shops at Men’s Warehouse,” he blasted. “This debate is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen, and I’ve met Jeb Bush,” he added.
Slipping into another snooze, Carson is woken by Fallon’s Trump, and finds himself blurting out Hitler’s name.
“You keep on saying crazy things,” Trump yells at his colleague. “Yet you’re going up in the polls. Stop stealing my campaign strategy!”
Trump then reveals he’s a bit disappointed his name wasn’t mentioned more in the debate, as he had a drinking game planned (to take a shot each time his name was spoken). Carson isn’t approving. “That’s an awful lot of tequila for a Tuesday night,” he says, before swigging an entire a bottle of Nyquil!
