On Thursday, Aug. 27, 26-year-old Matt Neal made an unusual offer on Facebook, posting that he was willing to trade up his pair of the rare sneakers in exchange for a working kidney.
Sneaker blog Sole Collector first discovered Neal after he posted on the WDYWT (What Did You Wear Today) Facebook page. Neal, who hails from Ann Arbor, Mich., said that he has two failing kidneys and has been on dialysis for two years.
“S/O is a kidney that has been abused by being a hype beast,” he wrote in his post. “BIN: One working kidney from a true sneaker head.”
Neal noted in later posts that the wait list for those seeking a kidney transplant in Michigan can span anywhere from five to seven years.
According to TMZ, when Kanye, 38, and his wife, Kardashian, 34, caught wind of the news, they were touched and offered to give Neal a pair of the rare shoes if an exchange did take place.
One problem, however, is that federal law prohibits anyone from offering money or merchandise in return for an organ.
But on the bright side, Neal’s widely publicized offer has reached plenty of Yeezy fans, who are offering to donate a kidney free of charge.
“I’ve been in tears twice now because all the love and support that I’m getting from random strangers!!” Neal posted later that day.
