The “Famous” rapper, 39, was reportedly a no-show for his run- through at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where his fellow artists spent hours finessing their performances on Sunday afternoon.
West’s appearance has been kept completely under wraps thus far. Earlier this week, TMZ reported that MTV is giving the star four minutes of freedom to essentially do whatever he wants on stage Sunday night. It is unknown whether he plans to perform or go on one of his infamous extended rants.
This isn’t the first time the self-proclaimed Yeezus left MTV in the dark. At last year’s VMAs ceremony, he gave viewers a piece of his mind — and announced his 2020 presidential campaign — while accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. However, a source told Us Weekly at the time that nobody knew what West had up his sleeve.
“In the weeks leading up to the show, Kanye went back and forth. He was initially going to perform and had many ideas,” the insider told Us in August 2015. “Then, he said he didn’t want to come at all. Then, he said he would come and not perform. The day of the show there was talk that he might perform. Literally, up until he got on stage, no one was clear if he was going to perform or not. No one knew he was going to do that insane speech or what he was going to do.”
