Mandy Moore is recalling the moment her husband, Taylor Goldsmith, asked for her dad’s hand in marriage — which is allegedly something her first husband, Ryan Adams, didn’t do.
“He was touched,” Moore, 42, recalled on the Tuesday, May 19, episode of the “That Was Us” podcast of her dad’s reaction. “I had been betrothed before, but that person did not ask my father. So I think my dad was very touched that it was done in the traditional way. My dad appreciates that.”
She continued, “But I believe he also is super awkward. He was like, ‘Oh gosh, you don’t have to ask for my permission.’ As Taylor recounted it to me.”
Moore and Adams began dating in 2007 and tied the knot two years later. After nearly six years of marriage, the pair called it quits in 2015. Moore and Adams’ divorce was finalized in 2016.
Two years later, Moore began speaking out about her relationship with her ex-husband. In 2019, the New York Times published a profile in which seven women — including Moore — came forward to share misconduct allegations against Adams.
“Music was a point of control for him,” she said at the time. “He would always tell me, ‘You’re not a real musician because you don’t play an instrument.’ … His controlling behavior essentially did block my ability to make new connections in the industry during a very pivotal and potentially lucrative time — my entire mid-to-late 20s.”
He denied the accusations. In 2020, Adams publicly apologized for his behavior. “There are no words to express how bad I feel about the ways I’ve mistreated people throughout my life and career,” he told the Daily Mail at the time. “All I can say is that I’m sorry. It’s that simple.”
Moore moved on with Goldsmith, whom she began dating in 2015. The couple got engaged in 2017 and said “I do” one year later. Moore and Goldsmith have since welcomed sons Gus and Ozzie in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
“He has just surpassed any expectation I had [as] a partner and a parent,” she exclusively told Us Weekly in 2022 after welcoming their second baby. “He’s just exceptional in every way. And I knew he was going to be, but … he’s exceeded every expectation I ever could have had. I feel so lucky that I get to do this with him.”
Moore and Goldsmith went on to welcome daughter Louise in 2024.
