Born in November 1974, the North Carolina native is famous for combining his Southern roots with his rock edge.
Adams was a member of the band Whiskeytown before getting his big break as a soloist with the release of his 2001 album, Gold, which received two Grammy nominations. His cover of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” earned him another nod in 2003 for Best Solo Male Rock Performance. The musician has since released a total of 16 solo albums, including his 2015 track-by-track cover of Taylor Swift’s 1989.
Adams was married to Mandy Moore from 2009 to 2016. The This Is Us star was among the women who accused him of manipulative behavior and abuse in a 2019 New York Times exposé, which he called “upsettingly inaccurate.” Adams’ lawyer said Moore’s depiction of their marriage was “completely inconsistent with his view of the relationship.”
